3 1/2 years

I have been at BYU for almost 3 1/2 years. (I know! Wow!!!) Today I did something for my first time ever at BYU. I bet you'll never be able to guess what it was so I'll just tell you. I checked out a book at the Harold B. Lee Library. When I was walking up to the desk to check it out I had a minor panic attack when I realized I didn't even know how to do it or where the book would need to be returned or how long I could have it...thoughts were just flooding over me and it was kind of overwhelming! And embarrassing. What college senior has never checked books out of their library?!? I don't know how I managed that feat. Maybe I just don't remember doing it or something. I mean I've done research and stuff with reference books but I really don't think I've ever actually checked a book out. I have thought about checking books out before but I usually just go buy them instead of messing with the crazy huge library. And I'm not allowed to read for fun during school so I don't get books for pleasure reading while I'm here. (I promise I use the Glendale Public Library at home all the time!) I needed this book for class though and it was sold out at all 4 of the bookstores I checked so the library was my last resort.

I got on the library website to see if they even had the book and after trying several different searches to find the correct book (for some reason it wouldn't come up when I searched its title or author but I managed to find it anyway) the right one finally came up and gave me this terribly complicated call number. Luckily the website had a little thing you could click and it showed a map of the library with a big red star where the book would be! How cool is that? When I got to the library the shelves were all facing the wrong way! They must have rearranged everything...or maybe I read the map wrong...who knows? ;) Anyway...I found the book and got to the desk and even made it through the security sensors just fine all the while marveling that it was my first time ever borrowing a book from the HBLL.
